Hippocrates once said "Let food be thy medicine and medicine by thy food". Another more modern quote that embodies the same idea is "You are what you eat". These two quotes fit nicely with findings from a recent report.
In the report published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, researchers from Imperial College London analyzed 95 studies looking at fruit and vegetable intake. They concluded that 7.8 million premature global deaths could be avoided yearly if people ate 10 portions of fruits and vegetables a day. Eating 10 portions a day would lower the risk of heart disease by 24%, stroke by 33%, cancer by 13%, and premature death by 31% when compared to not eating any fruits or vegetables.
